Union Pacific Railroad is committed to being the green transportation provider of choice for the expanding wind energy market. Union Pacific joined the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) in December 2007 and provides door-to-door rail transportation solutions for the movement of wind turbine components.
Freight trains are almost four times more fuel-efficient than over-the-road trucks and have less impact on greenhouse gas emissions than trucks.
Utilizing the efficiencies of rail transportation and backed by the greenest locomotive fleet in the industry, Union Pacific moves one ton 830 miles on one gallon of diesel fuel.
Our wind turbines power our home and business. It is a resource we have almost every day. It saves us money, and it is clean energy. It is a crop that never fails in the Texas panhandle.
I have always wanted to be a windsmith, ever since I was little kid and got to go to work with my dad in the Altamont hills of California. There's nothing better than fixing a piece of equipment that many people rely on for electricity. Also getting to work at heights over 250 feet is pretty awesome. This industry is growing so fast and with everyone's continued efforts, it will create more careers and better lives for people throughout our country.
1. Helps the local economies - the creation of jobs in the smaller towns is enormous.
2. Wind doesn't cost anything - why not use a free source of energy?
3. It's clean - Turbines produce no harmful emissions.
Wind matters to me because it is the only energy which takes care of the landscape. It can magnify it or match it, but it also brings substantial help to farmers who have the tough mission of keeping it clean and productive to feed the nation.
